3S-FE with 188000km's on the clock-reliable?

Im looking at purchasing a camry with a 3sfe engine in it. Its got 188k kms on the clock, and has a good service history. Cam belt done at 150000.

How long does this engine have left? Is it reliable? Can I expect any problems from it?

188k kms is less than 120k miles. the engine has a lot left in it if you maintain it. hell it probably has a lot left if you don't maintain it.

I had a 3S-FE with a ticking noise that was kept up very poorly, leaked oil, leaked coolant, overheated about 10 times (coolant leak and bad radiator)and had 200k MILES on it when I bought it... and it ran AMAZINGLY WELL when I got it.
A year later, I fixed all the problems and it ran even better. The motor is one of the best ever made, in my opinion.

I just bought another car with one today! But it's got 113k miles on it and runs great!

Guy a couple weeks ago came into my local Toyota dealer for service with a '90 Camry 3SFE. Almost 400k miles on the original engine and 5-speed Trans.

The Issue area on the car is normally the Auto Tranny's.

I agree.

188K Km is nothing for a Toyota and this engine. I have 166k KM on my 2002 V6 and it still drives like new, if you ask me. Lots of power. I do maintain the car though. I had a 1990 Golf GTI a few years back and it hit 360k Km and still running strong, for a car like a Camry, this is nothing.

Change the oil regularly, that is the key. very simple.
