Windshield Line Crack

I have line crack that started on my front windshield in the driver side area where the inspection sticker is. The crack extends less than a dollar bill length accross and then about the size of a dollar bill downwards. It does not affect my view when driving. A new windshield will cost about $200 but I dont plan to keep the car much longer. I just need the crack to be less visible so the DMV does not fail me when inspection time comes in July 2009.

This crack started small and I should I have addressed it in the beginning but was very careless. Its not even a deep crack. This all started over a year ago and has gone through a hot summer and cold winter already.

Can this still be repaired to be less visible to the DMV? Can you still get a used windshield and is it worth it? Are there any DIY repair kits for this?

Check your insurance policy. Many policies will not charge you if the windshield is repairable. I'm not sure if what you describe is repairable, but its worth a shot.

Don't just do a quick patch job- call your insurance agent and see if they will cover this at no charge.

It won't raise your insurance rates either.

I've gotten two stars replaced for free. Unfortunately, the last rock that hit my windshield caused such a great deal of damage that it wasn't repairable.

Good luck.
