Lightbulb Acrid Exhaust Fumes?

I've had he 96 Camry - auto, 79k for about 3 days now - bought from a dealer

I noticed an acrid smell - burned rubber kind of smell, with an electic taste to it -

First, I only noticed it after like 10mile drive or so and once the doors are open the smell just floods in the car. It's pretty strong, this morning though I just wanted to double check if its not the brakes or engine overheating, so early this morning, I engine up the car open the hood and wait to see if there is a smell.

After 2-3 mins, the smell was ...it seems like it was coming from, where the exhaust connects with the muffler, (the muffler is new) and there was some black/greyish smoke -little- emerging from that place.

English is bad...Sorry.

that's quite the poetic description, i think 50 of us have no clue what you're describing

if you get a smell and you don't have any smoke, its probably the catalytic converter,

coolant has kind of a sweet smell and white smoke

If it's screwing you up, buy a new muffler and get it professionally installed at a good shop. Take it to get it looked at as well. Better than being dead from fumes you know?

Good Luck.

sure, maybe that flange is leaking, but a muffler will not do anything about the smell
