Adding Cruise Control

I have a 1996 DX Coupe that dosen't have cruise control, I was just wondering if you thought it was worth it to add it. Also would this be an easy bolt on addition or would I need to remove the computer, ect..

if you tend to speed a lot, its a good invesment. while driving with it on you also realize how inconsisten other drivers can be with their speeds.

I think it's a pretty hard addition to put in, and dangerous too. I'd leave it for a Toyota pro....

I am also without CC, and from talking to a garage or two in addition to a dealership, it's more trouble (and money) than it's worth. Unless you really have a lead foot and want to keep yourself honest...

The factory manuals may help with wiring and/or parts if you're going with factory CC.

I had decided to live without, but if you find information that points to an easy or inexpensive solution, please post!

I know very little about CCs so take this with a grain of salt.

I think they get complicated when you've got an automatic tranny, because on the autos I've seen with CC there's a cable of some sort running back to the tranny from the throttlebody. On mine, which is a 5 speed as well, there's just a little servo unit that the throttle cable connects to from the throttleplate on one end and the gas pedal on the other.

So I guess I don't see what the issue would be (on a manual such as yours (if in fact the complication is due to weird automatic transmission issues)), unless the older Camrys had a vacuum operated CC rather than something controlled by the vehicle speed sensor + ECU. Then it could get complex.

Thanks everyone for your coments, I think it will be better off not having CC, it seems like too much work and I don't think I would use it enough to warent the hassle of instalation.
