I"m dropping a 1MZ-FE in my MR2, and planning on building the bottom end for serious boost... My question is does anyone know what the max boost for the stock sleeves is, I really don't wanan have to save another month to get it resleeved if its not nessisary. . I have a 1000CFM Vortec SC, and I"m hopin to get 550+ outta the V6. . Any one have experience boosting on the 1MZ or have any link with good info on the 1MZ?
Also what year did they 1MZ Come with VVTi ??
Last question, I keep reading that the new 99+ E153 tannies are alot better than the old 93+ from the MR2 Turbo.. so what car From 99+ has the E153, and how difficult is it to change the linkage from FWD configuration to RWD ?
dont worry about the tranny... just make sure you get the mr2 tranny with LSD. 93 was it?
the 1mz block will hold more than its KNOCK SENSORS will...
if you are planning on going 550+ i think you should get the block resleaved. and definitely make sure you get some custom pistons to fit the new bore. talk to tony the tiger on this board. he is the only one who has boosted the 1mz yet on a camry. or you could read up on the article the TURBO magazine did. they were doing a compound supercharger/turbocharger build on a 1mz and putting it in an mr2... prolly the best resource to you at this point...
about the vvti, you sure you wanna take on the wiring aspect of that??????
Hehe, thanks for the replies... I'll probably get the block sleeved just to be safe.. . So much $$$$$ hehe oh welll. . As far as VVTi goes, it could be advantageous for boost if I get the cams ground right but non-VVTi would be less trouble so I'll just take whatever I find at a good price VVTi or not.. I know for sure the 93+ MR2 Thurbo ( <-- how the indian guy pronunced it at the junk yard) tranny will work but, if the 99+ Solora one will work to and if its better (heard it was dual cone syncros) then I rather go for that cause it'll be easeir and probably cheaper to find, I can always throw a quafeeeeeee LSD in it .. prolly be a few weeks here before I get started but I"ll document the whole thing and prolly get a web page up, I"ll let ya know..
the thing with the solara tranny is that the shift linkage is on the wrong side... since the mr2 is backwards from the camry... BUT what you could do is take the solara inner workings and use the mr2 bellhousing... ive heard of that being done... there is a huge talk about trannys on here lemme find it...

Will Golden Eagle be willing to design a completely new sleeve for the 1MZ? Last time I consulted with them, they need me to order a minimum of 60 sleeves in order to stop their usual production line...
The turbo Magazine featured 1MZ made 450+ WHP... stock sleeves but with forged internals and ARP fasteners. No real tuning was done either. From my observations, the closed deck design and the actual sleeves on the 1MZ should have no problems supporting over 550WHP. I have seen stock Honda blocks/sleeves make over 300WHP, and stock Honda sleeves are toothpicks compared to the 1MZ.

yeah that turbo mag article series was HOT! they used a clark custom copper head gasket set and oringed the block to seal tight... i was talking to mr clark for a while about making me 3vz gaskets, BUT im not using the 3vz anymore, since i got the 1mz in already wiring that up was so much easier...
if you want the number for clark, contact me, ill give it to you. he has the blueprints for the 1mz gaskets still, if you want him to make you a set it would run about 50 bucks. then you would have to grove the block for the orings...
Thanks alot, you guys been alotta help. . I havn't actaully talked to Golden Eagle yet so I'm not sure what the deal is on that.. But I was kinda thinkin of just tryin it with stock sleeves for now and see how much they can take. . I can always get another block, plus somones gotta do it.. ; ) I was also thinking about what a good redline would be for the motor, I'm guessing with vavle trane (a must) and forged internal, with that short of a stroke I should eb able to wind it up to like 8,500 with no problems. . Weather or not it'll make power/tourque up there is the question. . . I guess the whole projects gonna be one big experiment. . We'll see what happens. .

From my observations, the 1MZ's R/S and Bore/stroke should be very rev happy... It is also a non-interference motor, which is a good thing too. But to rev up to 8500RPM, parts like the actual camshafts, shims, valve keys, etc... will have a very high chance to fail.
One thing I am unsure of is the lubrication system... I don't think the 1MZ's lubrication system can support 8000+ redline reliably. It will rev there, but for how long? A lot of unknown issues comes to mind... Will the piston pin over heat from the revs? How would the 1MZ crank and journals take the RPM? That;s why I don't like RPM too much because there's too much "guessing" involved.
I don't think the 1MZ will continue to make power beyond 7200RPM either. The cam is too mild IMO. I priced out 4 high lift and duration cams (for turbo), and an actual billet cam will cost $700-800 USD each cam. A regrind from Crower will be about $300 USD each cam...yikes. I am planning to rev mine to about 7400RPM tops

Of course you know this, but don't forget to get a 2003 ECU if you get the VVT-i 1MZ. Oh wait, but you need the immobilizer amplifier and ECU also, because I think the V6 ECU requires immobilizer input.
i'll be running either Autronic, or if the guy from Hydra EMS gets enough units to supply the demand I'll get one of his units, we're ( http://www.pyrracing.com ) possibly becoming a dealer for Hydra EMS in texas but were not sure yet.. If we do we can hook you guys up . . By the way my 5SFE head came out nice, if anyone needs good porting and polishing lemme know. . You can check the pics on the site to see the work we do . . ; )
