Sunroof woes

In my gen2 LE the power sunroof doesn't work. I push the button, but the thing doesn't move. I can hear the motor whir, but the glass doesn't slide on the track. I can manually move it, however. I think someone may have pulled the emergency release thing for it, since it doesn't sit flush against the roof on the back (toward trunk) side. Suprisingly, it doesn't leak, but I still would like it to be power operated. Any suggestions?

Don't know what year is GEN 2, but on the 90 camry LE that I once owned, both cables/shoe slides (used to move the glass) broke and needed to be replaced, from what I remember quite a bit of trim had to be removed so that the headliner can be removed and give you access to the rails and the cables.
Not a small job, but can be done by a DIY, a TOYOTA service manual will help.

Not sure how the Gen2 sunroof works, but for Gen3 sunroof there's no emergency release.

Wait is it even OEM?

it's OEM, and the release is by the e-brake. Maybe it's just for the seatbelts, but i pull it and it doesn't do shit.

does the entire headliner need to be removed to get to the tracks?

Oh, and 88 is the same gen as 90

My Gen4 doesn't have a release either. I think your release is for something else other than the sunroof.
