yeh....i know bout the DIY CAI...but im worryed bout my engine gettin water sucked into it.....plus i have a 92....and i think the little rubber type thing where the stock box connects to is too small for a 2" somethin pipe to go through

Sucking in some rain water would just make you either run really well, or run really bad depending on the amount.
Just build your box large enough it wont fill and put ia small hole in the bottom.

How are you guys running that cold air? I would think that the version I'm planning on, which runs into the fender, wouldn't suck up any water provided the inner fender cover is reintalled b/c it still sits fairly high. (on the gen2 there's a hole in the fender which the hood cable and a wiring harness runs through, just have to widen it a bit for the piping)
I suppose it has more to do with how the system is routed?

Wrong hole.
You want to use the hole underneath the fuse box. After you remove all the stock intake crap you'll see it.
