OEM Filters

I have a 95 Camry and I have been buying oil filters and air filters directly from Toyota dealers and replacing them myself. Stores like Pepboys, Straussauto, etc have Purolator or Fram oil and air filters for my car for a lot less than genuine parts. Is it so important to keep using Toyota oil and air filters?

Purolators are good filters and will work fine. Don't buy Fram though, the notorious for lower quality filters. NAPA Gold filters are Wix filters and just as good. The NAPA Silver are Wix also but not as good.

Are your recommendations based on oil filters or air filters or both?

Fram is 100% CRAP!!!! All of the versions. Fram sucks!

Fram oil filters are little orange time bombs. I stand with many MANY people of that fact.

Oh boy! I do all my oil changes and on my last change almost 3K miles ago, I put on a Fram filter for the 1st time ever. I just bought a Toyota filter today and plan to do an oil change tomorrow. I noticed my car is a little sluggish now on acceleration. Could this fram filter be the problem? Will changing the oil and oilter to the Toyota filter fix this or do I have to do something more to fix any damage the Fram filter may have done to my car?

Don't worry, 3K miles with a FRAM filter isn't going to do anything to your car. The price difference between FRAM and Toyota OEM filters is negligible so I just stick with OEM.

"Could this fram filter be the problem?" No.

"Will changing the oil and oilter to the Toyota filter fix this or do I have to do something more to fix any damage the Fram filter may have done to my car?" If your car is sluggish, the oil filter you used is not the problem. If your car is sluggish, but not missfiring, I would start by cleaning the throttle body to see if that helps. Here is a good DIY on the process:

I have found FRAM Air filters to be top notch, and readily available.

Fram oil filters, I avoid using them for my car. I actually use the free ones (3/4: dia - 16) that fit toyotas as an air filter for my air compressor.
