USA 2009 LE with several issues!

I bought a 2009 4-cyl Camry LE in June 2008.

Issue 1: I have had terrible gas mileage: 13.7/mpg as of yesterday's fill-up. I had better gas mileage with my 2001 6-cyl Avalon doing the same type of mostly local driving. The car has 7,000 miles and I feel I should be getting much better gas mileage than that.

Issue 2: When I open the front windows of the car, I smell mold. If it has rained, the smell is so bad that I have to keep the windows closed. The service department told me that they ordered new seals for the front doors and once those are replaced, the problem should be solved. My allergies, as well as my daughter's, have been awful. I hope the repair works.

Has anyone else had problems like these? I'm very frustrated and I am hoping they will get fixed. I am almost ready to trade it in and get something else! I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer! Thanks!

Don't know about the smell but your mileage is WAYYYYYY BADDDDD!
My 2009 SE-V6 has never gotten worse than 26 MPG.
Use your waranty and have the dealer check that first.

Thanks. I was sure that the reply the service department gave me was insufficient. When I bring in my car to have the seals fixed, I will have them look into that as well. Thanks again for the input!

Specifically, ask them if there are any TSB's (Technical Service Bulitens) on your car for gas mileage. They may have an ECU flash/update for it.

No current TSB's applicable to your vehicle for gas mileage issues, i checked all 159.

Have them check it out under warranty.
As sp mentioned, our v6's are getting 25+ ...

#2: The Camrys have been plagued with mold-AC related problems since day one. Are you sure that the smell isn't coming from the vents?

Well, the front window seals were replaced and the smell was still there. Toyota's Field Rep came to check out the car and said the insulating panels of all four doors should be replaced. So far, I have not noticed the same smell, but since it took a year to smell like that, I am unsure if the problem is completely solved.

As for the gas mileage, the Field Rep took the car for a test drive and said he got 23/mpg in similar driving to what I do. The Rep and the service rep both told me that it must be the way I drive, because the computer showed that the car is operating as it should. Oh well!

Thanks to all for the suggestions and checking on the TSB's. You all have been very helpful!

BTW, I will check the A/C vents tomorrow and see if there is a similar smell coming from them. Thanks for the info!
