Road Noise and Feel through Steering Column

My 2002 Camry LE has almost 14,000. For many months now, it seems as though there is a lot of road noise and "feel" through the steering column. It is not vibration due to wheel imbalance or alignment. The steering wheel does not vibrate. How isolated is the feel of the road supposed to be in this car? Seems as if it is quite poor. What's normal?

Could be the tires you've got on there. That can make a big difference in the quality of the ride. I presume they're stock tires... I don't know which came standard or how decent they are. Most likely they're average if they're stock.
