Door won't close.... help ASAP

well, i live in NY, and my '89 camry passenger door won't stay closed...

the locking mechanism as i call it won't lock.

So basically, on the side of the door, theres a lock thingy which wraps around the metal ring thats connected to the chassis inwhich is keeps the door closed... but my problem is that its not locking, clicking or anything to the ring... it goes around the ring i can see, but doesn't stay like that... All i did was stick in the key to unlock, and pull the handle, thats all i did, nothing else...

if the little lock thing is stuck clodes, just hold the door handle open and move it back up. If it's not locking at all i'm guessing a spring is missing somewhere. Sorry, I don't have my car with me at school to look how it works.

It's difficult to say without seeing but it's very probably a spring that broke or something like that. I would even not bother find another spring : you'll first have to know where it is and then be able to find one that is similar : pain ! I did that once and the spring I put broke again a week after. Just go to a junkyard and buy a used one, it can't be expensive...

Try taking a screwdriver to the lock on the door and see if you can get it to latch. Just push down on the lock with the screwdriver.

When you pull up on the door handle you should see it unlatch.
