07 XLE push start button {smart key}

Had an experience at a N TX dealership regarding pricing of ignition switch replacement. Anybody have to replace the push button ignition switch? What were the prices?

My dealer's website lists the part as $220.78. Not sure how much time it would take to replace it- so not really sure how much they would charge you in labor.

Good luck with your problem.

Camry XLE push button start switch

Thanks a lot for the info. The switch is for sale at ToyotaPartsCenter https://toyotapartscenter.net/toyotacamryparts.html for $52.50 + shipping.

My dealer's price is $123. A 10 or 20% margin over MSRP would be reasonable. I'm in negotiation over this charge and I'll post the results when it is settled.

Thanks Chris. I doubt it can be any cheaper than at:
https://toyotapartscenter.net/toyotacamryparts.html
Ya think?

The dealer has adjusted the invoice price. I am proceeding.

Thanks again.

I dont see where its 52.50. Thats actually below dealer cost. I'd sell it for
$60 + shipping. I do 10 over cost + shipping for forum members.

Ahhh ok. See thats not your ignition switch. Thats your push button start switch, they're different. Theres actually a TSB on that part too. Your cost on that is $44 + shipping.

Mmmmmm..... why not just turn the key so the car starts? Whats up with this 'push-button' thing?

2007 and newer Camry Hybrids and some XLE (and starting in 2010- some SE models too) came/come equipped with Toyota's Smart Key system. Instead of having a traditional ignition key with a transmitter like normal Camrys, cars equipped with the Smart Key simply have an intelligent key fob. You leave the transmitter in your pocket/purse, and when you approach the car and touch the door handle- it automatically unlocks. Also, instead of having a normal "insert the key and turn" ignition, cars equipped with the Smart Key just have an engine start/stop button. If you have the transmitter in your pocket, you just push the brake pedal with your foot and press the start button. No traditional keys required. (Although if the Smart Key's battery is depleted, there is a traditional door key hidden inside the transmitter to unlock the door, and a procedure for starting the vehicle)

Once you have a vehicle with this feature, you'll never want to go back to a car with traditional keys.

Ehhhh. Im not into it. A key fob to open the door and a key to turn the car on is great IMO. I dont need things to break especially on opening doors and starting the car. And really..... how HARD is it to press a button to open the door and then insert a freakin' key??! Add crap like that breaks. Camrys are great (were great) because of reliability. At 150K miles or 200K miles that little device is likely to stop working. I want my cars ressale value to be high. I think its a big mistake to add junk that should stay on German cars. Dont want it. Dont need it.

1. Its a $5 replacement battery.
2. Having smart key will raise your resale value.
3. Picture your hands are full and cant get into your pockets, that little gizmo makes opening your car doors A LOT easier.
4. What your suggestiing by "junk that should stay on german cars" is that Toyota stop advancing with thier technology, you want that .. buy a domestic lol.
