Exhaust question

How much gain would you expect to get from a '92 V6 with a 2.25" catback with a straight thru muffler? I seen a dyno of a V6 with an exahust and intake and they peaked out at around 143 hp and 158 lbs of torque. Thats less than I expected with an intake and exhaust. Is a catback even worth getting? (only concerned about performance, not sound)

You're talking hp at the crank, a dyno measures hp at the wheels.

Others have dyno'd with their V6 (even 1MZ) and have gotten about 150whp. I had a really crappy air filter on at the time....

The 4 cyls pull in <100 whp....

Cat-back doesn't have a great money/performance ratio. You're looking at about 5 hp at the wheels while spending approx $500 for. That's $100 PER hp.

Go to a shop that can make custom Y-pipe or headers for you.

what does a custom Y-pipe do? and how much power should I expect from that?

I installed a high flow cat converter, i dunno why, but now i realize that it wouldnt really do anything since the muffler is the main thing thats preventing flow.

^ put it this way, if you can see the filter in the engine bay, it's a short ram. A CAI will have the filter pretty much in the bumper area. Who really knows what the diff in HP will be, there's so many factors...and you really can't see the benefits of CAI on a dyno.....

Maybe your Cam will help your relationship with your dad...ask him to explain stuff to you, smart people like talking about stuff they know....

hehe yea i suppose so....and the crazy thing is my dad has no experience with aftermarket stuff like the short-ram intake, and he just simply put that thing on and took off the stock intake w/o any problems....
yea hes real expert when it comes to cars...can do about almost anything...but the werid thing is that hes a mechanic for VW
but i'm glad that all of our cars are toyotas too!
my mom has a 1988 corolla which was going dead, but my dad tuned it up so good, so now its running fine again, but its still pretty weak when stepping on the gas, but it still runs good..
has about 165k miles on the corolla..
and my dad drives a toyota 4x4 truck , its v6 and manuel transmission, and 4WD !! lol i wonder whats the HP on his engine not sure what year the truck is tho, i think its maybe 1985 to 1990

i'm sure that if i do plan to make a custom CAI , he can probably assist me...or might even do the entire thing for me!!
hehe
