92 camry xle v6 3.0 HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

My Camry started sputtering and had a bad smell of gas and intermittently would stall and lose power. Took it to a shop he changed the valve cover gasket, plugs, wires, cap, rotor and then he said that one injector was bad. Went and got one and then he said the computer keeps pulsing a message that keeps sending fuel to the injector, and fuel keeps going through it "wide open". He is recommending that I replace the computer. I had a brand new one put in 7 years ago. I think he's wrong, can anyone please help me? Thank you, Cuttyshark.

Did anyone check to see if there are any stored codes? You can do it on your car with a piece of wire or a paper clip and any manual. The manual will have the procedure and what (if any) the codes mean. I would start there.

If you don't know already, these engines are very sensitive to intake air leaks. Check every connection to your rubber air intake hose/boot. The smallest leak will cause the engine to run poorly, and have driveability issues. A cracked boot will make it run horrible.

It's the first thing I check when my car has driveability issues. I have a 92 ES300 with the same engine.
