Unhappy Noisy Steering Wheel

When I start out in the morning and turn my steeriing wheel it makes a high pitched sound real briefly. Any ideas on what that could be?

thanks

Are you talking about the wheel itself or the whole steering system?

My guess would be the power steering pump is low on fluid, give it a look.

However, seeing as you're from Chicago, I'd guess the cold weather has something to do with all the racket. You probably also noticed that in extreme cold your P/S is pretty heavy when you get going, as the fluid gets warmer and thinner you dont need as much effort.

I notcie that if you keep the car moving, even if only a little bit, when turning the wheel it's a little less stressful on the pump.

acecl22 that squeaking might be a loose accessory belt, so you might want to look there. At least that's been the problem in my experiences.

Steve

it's probably the steering column.....take a look at all the joints/moving parts on it, grease it up, and you'll be fine.....take a look at where the wheel meets the column, and also where the column meets the firewall

Did anyone find a sloution to this problem? I have the same problem on my 2000 Camry LE-V6. I checked my fluid and it was at a proper level. I did top it off. I lubricated the steering column both indise the car and behind the firewall. I still notice I get noise. I check the hoses (as best I could see without gettingunder the car) and I don't see any signs of leakage.
