Immobilizer sensor problem

I shipped a Toyota Camry 2008 to Nigeria. Once it arrived we drove it to a lot and then the car wouldn't start. After much investigation we discovered that the immobilizer sensor had gone bad. We have replaced the sensor 3 times now and each time it will start the car a few times and then the sensor goes out.

Does anyone have insight into what could be causing the sensor to go bad? Someone over there mentioned it could be the sensor relay causing the problem but Toyota claims there is no such thing. To take the car to dealership for diagnosis would require towing it about 200 miles!
