1990 toyota camry DX

so i have bough a very rusty 1990 toyota camry DX with a 2.0L 16 valuve engine. the problem is that it will not start. i was told when i bought it that it needed a new Distributor, and it did not run when i picked it up. i bough one from a junkyard off of a running car. it did not fire at all. i bough another one, this one looked different, but it still refused to fire. i am starting to think itis the timing but i am not sure. i am no toyota expert.

To check to see if the timing belt is still intact remove the distributor cap and crank the engine over. If the rotor rotates, the timing belt is still intact. This still doean't mean the belt hasn't skipped a tooth or two.

Next start troubleshooting using the basics. Check to see if it's getting spark and fuel and then report back here with your results. Someone will be able to give you some direction.

This is a long and slippery slope. May I suggest just pull a plug and crank the engine over have someone stick a finger in the hole (not hard) you will know if it is working, next take that plug with lead on it and ground out plug to engine see how the spark is. That way you will kill 2 birds with one stone. An it goes on from their.
