Have you found any difference in what the number is set to? That same sequence (turn it to ODO, turn car off, hold button in while turning car on) is what resets my maintenence required light on my gen 5.5. I think it flashes at startup after 4500 miles and stays solid after 5000 miles. I never reach that many miles between my oil changes so I never see it, but I always reset it after I change my oil.

I know I have read up alot on it. The sequene can reset cels and even get rid of set belt lights and beeps.

But on gen 1 laras it displays numbers 1-20, and keeps it saved. why ?

I don't think it can reset a CEL/MIL - but yep, you can use it to disable the seat belt chime and what not.
