Car won't start!

I've been doing some work on my 94 4cyl, and now it won't start. The weird thing, is that I haven't done anything to the electrical system. I have replaced the down pipe, the fuel filter, PCV valve, front rotors and pads, and changed the oil. A few weeks ago I replaced the negative battery wire, but I have started it a couple of times since then.

The battery has been tested and is fine, so I took out the starter and had it checked down at autozone, and they said it was bad, so I got a new one and the car still won't start. When I turn the key, I hear two clicks, one sounds like it is from the starter relay, and the other one sounds like it is from the ABS actuator. I have just about run out of ideas, so any help would be great. Thanks.

If you changed the negative battery cable then check the ground connections on the chassis. There may be a poor surface contact or loose wire connections. What gage wire did you replace it with?

I reconnected the ground, but I will definately check it again. All the lights etc. work, so wouldn't that mean that the connections are o.k? I replaced it with 6 gauge wire.

My '93 has trouble with the "neutral safety switch". Even with the shifter in park, it doesn't acutally know it and I have to put it in neutral to start the car. You might try that.... I don't know if the '96 is the same, but on the '93 there is a button next to the shifter (underneath a cover you have to pry off) that will allow you to shift without the car started.

Might seem dumb but since you changed the fuel filter are you sure gas is still coming ? From my experience problems you get are often coming from something you've just done...

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try it in neutral. As far as the fuel filter, I am pretty sure that I did it right, but even if there was a problem there, the starter should still turn, shouldn't it? Does anyone know how to tell if the relay is bad?
