weird ass noise when i hit 60

ever since the other day when i slammed on my brakes to avoid hitting some kid i have this problem whenever i hit about 60 mph or around there i have this wierd noise coming from the engine. it sounds kinda like someone is drilling into my engine or something it's a noise that fades in an out an it's a whining type of noise i don't understand what in the world it could be but i'm startin to wonder if my engine is goin out or something i don't know someone please help me. i'm not sure if the noise occurs only when accelerating or if it doesn't matter what i'm doing i'm confused please help

check the alternator. My mothers oldsmobile does ot and I think that's what the mechanic said it was.
