I dunno.... I think it was so cold that it was harder to open those doors... but when I got it open, which required a little more pull on the latch this morning, now they doors won't close.... I looked at the hinges and can't figure what keeps those doors closed, and what opens it.... last thing I need is someone trying to be funny, and in this town, there's a lot of clowns.

frozen cables/latch, you can try the blowdryer thing, or just chip away the ice with a screwdriver if you can see it

i'd just wait till summer comes around and then i'd try to lubricate everything

Ok..... the trunk, happend last winter... and till this day, I can only open it with keys... now, the gas door is hosed.. I mean, I can get to the gas cap, but so can everyone else.. I'm just wondering how to close it... what latches the gas door?

well open up your trunk and have someone pull the trunk handle, then you can see what's going on with the bottom latch

if you can't see, then fold down the rear seats and stick your upper body in the trunk and look at what happens when the handle is pulled

it could be a faulty mechanism, or the cable may be frayed and seized in place

WEll...there is a thing on most toyota's about the trunklocking thing (my celica has it, and my solara has it). You can lock your trunk so that you can't remotely open it. (only with they key)....is your key -inserter (making up words as i go along) horizontal or vertical, cus i think vertical is how it should be...horizontal is the lock position..(i hope all this is making sense??)...cus' for one whole summer i went thru thinking my cable broke, until one day i asked how much to replace teh cable at the dealership, and they told me it was in lock position - couldn't open from inside..only with key)...so check that out first!

I'm sure its got a name lockcylinder something...well its the part that in the car where you insert the key..the one that sticks out, that is silver color..essentially do you in sert your key in a horizontal position (up-down) or vertical position (side to side)..cus vertical is lock position, just take you key and turn it clockwise till you come vertical...(just before you open your trunk) and then go inside and try it remotely...surprised me when i found out this feature!

AWESOME!!

I'm going to try it as soon as I get out of work!! ... the key hole(?) is horizontal..... but, it's always been horizontal, even when the latch inside the car worked.... *shrugs* ....I think that's what you are referring to..???? ...

in any case, I went out to get my lunch, and I just shut the gas tank door! ...so it's closed now... where as, this morning it wouldn't! So one problem down!!!

BigPimpin,

What jhbhatia is talking about is the keyhole. On my Camry when you put the key in with the top of the key at the 12 o'clock position (assuming the inside release level is working and not in valet mode), a 1/8th turn to the right (about the 2 o'clock position) that opens the trunk with the key. If you turn the key a 1/4th counter clockwise (9 o'clock position the top of the key) it locks the trunk, thus disabling the inside release. The key slot is now in a horizontal position, if you're looking at it (-) whereas before it's in a vertical position (|). The disabling of the inside level can only be done using the master key (black head).
