Question about removing center consel?

I need to remove my center console in my 1989 camry because i am goin to be installing a custom shift boot. I need to remover the whole center concel because it is all one piece. I know where all the screws are that hold it down, but the only thing i was curious about was the lever to the left the ebrake the has a tab at the end that says "pull for emergency exit". To take the center consel out i need to somehow get the plastic tab of the lever off. For you that have done this, how do i do this with out breaking the plastic on the end of the lever?

I think i know what you're talking about, so I'll give it a shot. There should be a screw on one side of it, I can't remember cuz its been 3 years since I had my 87 Camry. Sorry if this isn't what you're talking about or doesn't help ya.
