New to Toyotanation and it was suggested i check this forum with my question. I have a 93 Toyota Chaser with an A341E coupled to an EFI normally aspirated 3.0L six. The trans w/not downshift into first after stopping and must be manually shifted to get it there. Once in first, it will upshift quickly through the gears and then stay there. Took it to a shop to be read (O/D blinking) and they wanted $700 to change all the solenoids. They said the #1 was the culprit but said they recommended replacing all of them, since one was bad the others aren't far behind. I'm not studying that. What is involved in changing the #1 solenoid? I'm no stranger to brakes, exhaust, waterpumps, radiators, window motors and the like. I deduce the trans pan will have to come off (messy?) - Is the solenoid accessible without removing the valve body? Can I do this in my garage on some jackstands or do I need to bite the bullet and shell out cash for a properly equipped shop? I understand how the ECT trans works but have no manuals.
I am in Japan so there is a serious language barrier here for me.

Thoughts/recommendations?
Thx!
