USA How can i tell if I have immobilizer?

hello,

2000 Toyota Solara SE I4 (5S-FE) A/T
currently work in progress on removing aftermarket remote starter kit and reviving RS3000 operations (ECU seems dead or disconnected).

so far i can start the engine with flat metal key (no transponder) and drive it, so i don't know if prev owner used an immobilizer bypass module or i do not have the immobilizer at all.

How can i tell for 100% if I have engine immobilizer?

according to this list (Canadian), my car has factory immobilizer. it means that the keys should have the transponder, right?

CAMRY SOLARA 2DR (All Trim Levels/Version) 2000 to 2007

thing is that it was disabled/bypassed by previous owner (he used aftermarket remote starter which i removed recently) and i got no idea how to fix this problem ...

dang, i removed all knee/sterring column/ignition panels today and checked cables, but everything looks normal to me (i'm not an electrician) and could not find any bypass modules anywhere. still immobilizer doesn't work... any help or suggestions welcome.

since this one cleared out, i just need to get the remote and program it for RS3000 alarm and see if that works

Leaving no stone unturned seems a good policy.
She's in good hands.

contacted car seller and he stated car has no immobilizer. this one is double checked then.

i received toyota remote (GREY) from ebay today and just programmed it into ECU. all works, RS3000 properly arms/disarms when using its remote.

i got mislead by ignition key not being recognized by ECU, it was like that because of missing immobilizer module - ECU would flash the status LED if key was equipped with transponder. all works anyways.

for now will leave aftermarket remote starter wires in car (no harm).

I hope this info helps other running into similar trouble, so common when buying cars from private sellers...

I posted similar thread (more detailed) in Solara section of forum. so if mods think this is cross posting and blah blah, you can delete it. here's the link of original thread (I was maintaining 4 threads on 3 forums about my problems LOL):
2000 Solara I4 security device

and here is Solaraguy thread that got me on right tracks as per locating alarm ECU:
http://www.solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t=46453

and here is 12volt.com thread that tought me lots of other stuff thank to their resident "teacher"
http://pub9.bravenet.com/forum/stati...&cp=1&cmd=show

Hope it helps all people not willing to let the dealer sort out their problems for tons of green while you can still do it on your own

cheers!
