Transmission Pan Gasket or Sealant?

I want to drop the transmission pan and clean out the magnets
on my 1998 Camry LE V6 with automatic transmission.

68,000 miles, drained and refilled several times but never cleaned
out the pan.

When I put the pan back up, do I seal it with a new gasket or use
a sealant that comes in a tube?

1. If I need a new gasket where do I get it, from a dealer ?

2. If I need to use a sealant, which kind do I use ? RTV ?
It must be able to withstand high temps.

This is not clear in the Haynes manual. I don't want to drop the
pan and get stuck not being able to put it up again or worse leak.

Thanks

tranny fluid change

Hey man all you gotta do is go to your local auto parts store and ask them for the tranny fluid filter and gasket set. It all comes in one box and should run between 15 to 25 bucks depending on how badly the store needs money. Once you take all the bolts off of the trans pan, take it off and then on a piece of paper mark their locations so you'll be able to put em back once ya clean em. Also change your tranny fluid filter too, its held on by three bolts, one of which is a little longer and that's the back bolt. Now go back to the pan and take the old nasty gasket off and clean the surface throughly with solvent, parts cleaner, etc. I just recently did this on my 89 gen 2 and the pan was nasty and the filter was pretty dirty. Once the pan is clean put the new gasket on, it may be kinda kinked from being in the box but just finesse it into place as you tighten the bolts. Also make sure the gasket isn't pinched cause mine was and i had to do it all over again. I'm not sure if your car has a separate diff but mine did and when i drained and refilled it with mobil 1 synthetic atf my car got way smoother. Hope that helps ya.
