engine oil over fill

I recently changed my engine oil and when i check my oil in the morning it is at full, but after I start the engine, it passed the full mark a lot (about 5 inchs) . Is this normal?

97Camry LE 4cyl, 96k miles. changed oil at the end of january 04.

Thanks

Hmm... I hope this is not a joke.

Clean your dip stick first before you stick it back in to check oil level.

You should shut off your engine first before you take the dip stick out.

(just trying to narrow it down the possibility)

A refill for your engine is 3.8 qts. How much did you put in? Did you replace the oil filter?

you can't check the engine oil level while the engine is running, it just splashes it up

wait a couple minutes before checking it, wipe off the dipstick and then check it

Sometimes oil runs up the side of the dipstick. But the measurement will be correct. Is this what he's talking about?
