Change your oil every 5K miles for the first 60K miles while your powertrain warranty is still in effect. If something goes wrong and Toyota asks for proof of oil changes and all you have is once every 10K miles, they'll easily deny your claim.
As far as conventional vs. synthetic oil, there are many many threads on that here on TN and it always sparks great debate. I won't tell you what the best for YOU is as we all drive differently and under different conditions, but I prefer synthetic. Both of my Camrys are on synthetic.
I drive my car hard and it's almost all city stop-and-go w/ AC on, and I've noticed my radiator fans aren't turning on as much - meaning, synthetic oil is keeping my engine slightly cooler. It's also smoother. Gas mileage is about the same as conventional oil. One big perk for me is that if I don't have time to change my oil, synthetic gives me a little leeway if necessary.
I've tried Pennzoil, Mobil1, Valvoline, and now Castrol synthetic oil. My car feels the best on Castrol; Pennzoil for some bizzare reason resulted in a drop in fuel economy, and with Mobil1 I can feel my car vibrating more at idle as the miles/months go by. As far as filters - I buy Toyota OEM from the dealer cause they're cheap and pretty decent as far as I know.
Good luck!
