how to install new steering wheel?

Hi guys

i hope this question hasn't already been answered (did a quick search already), but i have a 2000 camry LE auto 4cyl. I was looking on ebay and saw some good momo or sparco steering wheels that i'm interested in. What all do i need to make the wheels fit and work? Stuff like a hub adapter or other stuff?

I want a leather wrapped steering wheel that is smaller than the OEM camry wheel. I really like the celica GT/GT-S steering wheel and the acura rsx/rsx-s wheels. i want something like those from momo/sparco or any aftermarket, or even a celica or rsx steering wheel.

if anyone can help me on what i need to install, and maybe some good steering wheel suggestions, that would be awesome!

thanks

you can find some pretty good deals on MOMO steering wheels on E-bay. Then all you'd need is a hub adapter. It usually runs around $60-$70 for a MOMO one.

Sparco wheels are nice...but man they are super expensive.

Also... you might wanna look at www.tekniqauto.com
I'm thinkin' about gettin' their snap-off system. That way you can take your wheel with you and also, no one could drive off with your car. So like if you had a MOMO or Sparco wheel... they also have snap off systems for those wheels also.

man..I just did free advertisin' for 'em. wish they'd discount me for that. lol.

well..good luck in finding a steering wheel.

hey ubongen

really, all i need is a hub adaptor and the steering wheel, and it will fit perfectly? Are the hub adaptors specific for each car model (like where would i find a hub adaptor for 2000 camry), or are they universal?

yeah, sparco steering wheels are pretty expensive. keep me posted on your steering wheel search...if you get one, i would like to see which one you got

thanks for the help

MOMO makes specific hubs for the make and model of your car.

so all u need is a the hub from MOMO and a wheel of your choice.

man..I just looked on e-bay and found some sweet MOMO wheels. The ones with suede on 'em are lookin' pretty tempting!

i went ahead and email the momo website, asking for the hub adapter for my camry. hopefully they have some in stock. and yeah, there are alot of cool momo steering wheels on ebay, and they're not too expensive.

hey a94autoCamry, if i get a momo steering wheel, i guess i'll lose the airbag. I rather not, but i really hate the regular camry steering wheel. I put a wheel cover on it, but it doesn't make it much better. like i wrote in the first post, i really want something like th acura rsx steering wheel or the celica gt-s type.

for everyone out there, is there much difference between leatherette and leather steering wheel, besides leatherlette being a bit cheaper? I really would like the leather wheel, but if leatherette feels almost the same, i would buy that instead.

if you wanna keep yer airbag...u might wanna look at the momo steering that comes with the Subaru WRX. I believe that momo has an airbag.

I could be wrong though... my short term memory is shot.

hey ubongen

thanks for the tip. I was looking at some sparco steering wheels and some look pretty sweet. Does a MOMO hub adaptor also work for sparco steering wheels? having trouble locating a sparco hub adaptor for my car, but have already found a momo adaptor that'll work.

another question for anyone who knows...if i install a sparco or momo steering wheel without an airbag, will my passenger side airbag still work like normal? my mechanic said sometimes if you take out the driver airbag, this may cause the passanger airbag to malfunction? any truth to this???

ive been thinking about getting a new steering wheel for my gen 4 camry but cant decide on which one. there is a thread about a new celica wheel on a gen 3 and it looks pretty tight. I think the air bag would still be active if the wiring harness' match up. if not you could probably mod it to fit. if you dont care about the air bag i would go with a momo because they have been around for a long time and make some great products. some one let me know if the celica wheel will fit on a gen4, if so i could probably find one in a junk yard some where. btw would the cruise work from the celica wheel on my camry?

so does the celica wheel bolt up easily to the gen4, also im pretty sure it needs to be professionally installed but how much would it run to replace the steering wheel. im looking at the 3 spoke wheels for the GEN5 or celica.

if the bolts line up you should not have any problems getting the celica wheel on, you will need a special tool called a steering wheel puller. if you go to a dealer ship they would charge you an arm and a leg to do it, but you can probably get the tool from auto zone.
