Any plans for an AWD Camry in the future? I live where it snows a bit, plus would really help on slight uphills and accelerating on a turn especiallly sinc the V6's are much more powerful the last Gen.
Thanks if anyone knows some info.
Not sure, but I assume because when going up hill you shift weight to the rear increasing traction there and remove traction from the front. With AWD, some power transfer to the rear will help the car move along if the front ones slip a bit.
At present, it looks like only the Camry sister cars have AWD; this is: Highlander, Sienna, and Venza. Camry sells well enough that they don't need to make a AAWD version to cater to what would otherwise be a niche market.
I haven't seen any plans for it either, but there are several Lexus awd capable sedans (IS & GS series come to mind) so it's always possible Toyota might port that idea over, though it would make sense for them to give the Avalon awd first, since it's Toyota's luxury sedan. It's always a possibility the Camry could get it though.
I long for the days of yor, where you could buy a Camry All-trac (You could even get it in an epic stationwagon form) and utilize that system (controlled by a button on the dash from what I've read, so you didn't have to be in awd all the time)
I think ASG14 mentioned something about the return of the all-trac recently...

Toyota actually sells an AWD Camry in Japan with a 4-cyl engine. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any plans to make them for export. It's too bad, because I would consider buying one.
In the meantime, a good set of snow tires will go a long way. I have a set mounted on a spare set of wheels for my Camry. I can confidently go up and down hills that I would not otherwise dare.

I just like the idea of all wheel drive. I'd really like a TRD Aurion with AWD.... a toyota version of a WRX STi kind of.

I had thought of that conversion. I believe a lot of dollars would be involved. I thought of a Camry Vista AWD from Japan (it's available here) - I am not sure if the system could be retrofitted to fit the Scepter's system or if it's a direct bolt-on. I am to do more research about that and would inform you about updates. The toyota AWD system for the camry was designed for snow use in Japan though. It would mask the understeer-prone celica AWD system.

I'm assuming our gen 6 an 6.5 camry are still called the scepter? i thought they weren't. anyways... i do know our gen 3.0 and 3.5 camry (scepter for japan) were equiped with AWD. I suppose if you had the correct tranny and transfer case the system could be retro'd onto a US gen 3/3.5 camry. keep us posted on a gen 7 AWD.

I just don't see it happening the Venza is on the Camry platform and available with AWD. We are not in Japan.
