odb codes (P0300, P0302, P0303, P0304) after changing battery

Hello,

Today, I replaced the battery on my 2000 Camry LE. Immediately after turning on the ignition, the engine started sputtering, RPM going up a little, then back down, then back up, etc...

Also the check-engine light was on, hence my checking the code(s). I found P0300, P0302, P0303, and P0304 . I reset these codes and now the engine appears to be running fine again.

Does this behavior make any sense to anybody? Beyond just keep monitoring it, I am not sure how to interpret this event.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ignition codes/firing tend to be in the low 300 range just what you had. If its okay after you reset do not worry. Not sure of your car but it could of been a computer reset after battery change. If it comes back look at plugs leads and all ignition related.

Edit: some will try to tell you O2 sensors and such I doubt it very much

Hasn't come back (thus far...knock on wood)

Well, After I reset these codes, like I said, everything has been running fine and I've not seen another occurrence of this. In fact, I took about a 300+ mile road trip this past weekend. So, I am cautiously optimistic that this was just a weird issue perhaps caused by the battery replace...or some other happenstance.

Thanks for the responses!

Great to hear.

Yeah so chances where it was the ECU reset. When changing battery. Next time you unplug the battery maybe hit brake pedals turn on lights to make sure you completely wipe the computer clean. Or wait at least 30 mins. That way you will not get the hiccups. You probably change the battery fast and was residual power in the system.

Have a wonderful drive

FYI:

An this is not a hard fast rule but should almost be a sticky,

OBDII codes you have what I will call maintenance faults, and hard faults.

When you reset a code and it does not come back it is just maintenance advisory and is not hard. You reset once, reset it again. On the third time consider it a hard fault.

Hard faults, well they just stick and fix it right away.

Your local garage is very happy to fix anything that codes but it is not always needed. just a reset is required
