Rollcage almost done! (New Pics loaded)

I got the main six points installed (1 3/4" x.120 dom pipe) and I am going to have the remaining 6 done today. It took a little bit to make it work around the glove box and the door handles and so on, but it all works. I broke the mirror switch though, damn.

Here are the photos!

What are your plans for your Camry? Are you turning it into a flat out race car or are you going to have a Track/Street set up?

don't know yet. I will be driving it on the road and I don't plan on replacing the power windows with lexan yet. But, who knows, perhaps when I get another car (I drive an older crewcab chevy 2whdr right now) then I will turn it into an all out racer. I would want to add a v6 or v8 toyota drivetrain with rear wheel drive just to be different. It would be easy enough to do if I have all the parts.

I got the rear X brace welded in and some more structural stuff done. No wonder companies charge a shit load for making a custom cage.

Does anyone else have a cage or rollbar installed in their car?
Show some pics if you do.

Wow nice I am planning on doing myn the same! I heard though its not good to do it yourself because you need to know accurate placement for it to actually help the car and safety, and not hinder. Wrong placement can be fatal in a crash due to collapsing and crushing. Let me know if you figured anyof this because if so I would pay to have messurments and piece list of the assembly! thanks and goood luck!

as of right now the roll cage is the only thing holding me back from welding the back doors sshut and some more wicked ideas from happening but Im waiting patiently!

rollcages are pretty straight forward when it comes to design. You have to start with correct tubing, then have your main hoop bent with 4 or less bends totaling 180 degrees +/- 10 degrees.
then the rear bars have to be straight, any bends in them weaken the frontal crash support. Your forward hoop can be designed 3 different ways.

Anyways there is more info here at

http://www.nasaproracing.com/images/...s_2002_CCR.pdf

copy and paste... These are just the rules for one organisation but they work for me.

would you be willing to blue print your design because I could se tit in proengineer or solid workds and send it to roll cage builders and that would help making it easier to get and manufacture.

I guess I could. I have the main hoop drawn out on plywood. I made a template inside the car from 1/4" rod and bent it around one of my 13" brake discs I made sure it would clear everything. The main hoop doesn't clear the rear door armrests though because it is just a little wide, but I replaced them with carbon panels anyways. (I had that one planned because I have no rear seat.)
This cage would still allow the rear seat to be put back in except for the side pop out bolsters that cover the suspension mounts. A person could trim the pieces and re-upholster them to fit.

I just downloaded autocad, so I can start drawing sometime soon.

Since those photos were taken I installed an X brace in the rear (this makes the rear seat area useless) and I am also cutting out the spare tire well, since it is just sheetmetal and kinda useless. Replacing it with 2x2" tubing and flat sheetmetal and recessing the battery box, so I have clearance for ground effects under there. I thought about a fuel cell, but the rules let you keep the original gas tank, which is low to the ground anyways.

Well if you want take the dimensions and transfer them into auto cad as 2D. Kinda like piece by piece but in order. Then export that as a DXF format which you will see. Then I can take it and make a solid 3D frame to send to shops for people that need it done. Sound good?

Nice work, just be careful running a cage on the street, the last thing you want it so bang your head against one of the bars. If you have a cage, you should really be wearing a helmet, too...

Nice work.

Just one question, maybe I missed something, but why do you need a roll cage?
