How to tighten emergency brake

I've looked in the manual and alldata but haven't found any resources to help me tighten my emergency brake. Can anybody help me, or at least direct me to a good reference? The snow is starting to melt and I'm getting anxious to start some drifting and burn out my third set of tires in two years!

open up the trim around your handbrake, or the little tray where your handbrake would be if you have a pedal brake, should see 2 nuts on a long nut, unlock the top one and slide the other down until you get 5-7 clicks, then lock them back together

i just looked it up in my haynes manual, it says for the lever type handbrake you have to remove the whole console (chapter 11)

In that case, take the rear tire off, there is a rubber plug that covers a hole on the drum. This hole must line up to a wheel with teeth that can be turned in one direction to tighten the brakes. If you tighten it too much, you need to take the drum off and start all over. Over tightening will cause the brakes to smoke, and wear out faster. You can use a screw driver to spin this wheel. The wheel can be seen between 12 and 2 if you think of the drum as a clock adn the hole as the arm. Good luck.

here's an easier way of adjusting drum brakes, drive in reverse at a pretty good clip, and slam on the brakes

modern drum brakes (shit that's an oxymoron) are self adjusting

yeah dude, a rapid deceleration or 2, will adjust drum brakes

this is a good scam for garages, ppl that drive like nancys come in brake complaints, they'll reverse and brake hard a couple times, and there's a half hour of labour

if i remember correctly, when braking in reverse, the front shoe will come back and up and hit the adjuster

Reverse brake slam won't necessarily tighten the e-brake though, will it?

I don't have immediate access to a Haynes manual, but I'll see what information Chilton's has to offer. How hard did it look to remove the whole console?

for you drum guys (ewwww) it adjusts your rear brakes, which automatically adjusts your parking brake unless your parking brake cable is really stretched

Anybody have any experience in removing the center console? I have the bolts off so I can lift it up, but it is still attached by the shifter. Is there some tab or something I undo to seperate it from the shifter?
