Hey guys,
Haven't been here for a while, but spring is on its way and I'm in a mood for some upgrading for my cam (after I had a little accident with it, it was slippery and I drove right into a high way divider on an exit ramp, got it all fixed already, $1200 of damage, i paid only $500 dedictible so its all good. Altough I wish I could've kept if for my self)
Anyway, back to my topic.
I want to do a custom cat-back exhaust this summer probably. I did some research and here is what I'd have to do, I just need someone's approval if I got it all straight, i'm in my learning process so far
1. I'm thinking of getting nice muffler something like HKS or Magnaflow, with nice deep sound.
2. I'd have to go with 2.5" piping, mandrel bent, back from cat.
Here is my little question though. I can get muffler online with no problem, but do I have to buy the piping as well or the shop could use theirs? I should go with stainless steel pipe, correct?
Btw, my goal is to have nice deep sounding exhaust, without it cost arm and a leg.
Any corrections? I'm happy to hear any advice.
Thanks,
Max

Well if you have the v6, you can just buy the gen4 or solara cat-back by greddy, apexi, and whatever. Its the exact same piping but the only thing diffrent are the hangers. I have the greddy evo cat-back on my 95 camry. Just in case you wanted to do it that way instead of custom.
Originally posted by CamryMax I thought they dont make anything for gen3 camrys.... thats why I was thining to go with custom.
And its I4.
They dont. I had to have a shop flip and reweld the hangers. Its the only difference other than that, its a direct bolt on. But since you have the I4 I dont think itll work so dont mind my post.
i got my apexi muffler myself at a local aftermarket shop and had the guys at the muffler place used there pipe...it was aluminized steel pipes tho, but stainless steel is the way to go and quite more pricey also...

wow i didn't know that, i would have done it that way.

Yes! I didnt know they fit before either. But I bought the Greddy Evo for the solara and I knew that gen 4 and solaras have the exact same piping size and all so i decided, what the heck I'll try it out and if all fails to fit it on my gen3, I'll just sell it. Fortunately, it fits perfect for the exception of cutting off all hanger points, flipping them around, and then rewelding it. Everything else from piping to 02 port was an exact bolt on.
hmm 2.5 " is too big or 4 cylinder.. if u have a v6 it would be aite... 2.25" is pretty good... otherwise u lose way too much torque and the hks would sound like crap unless u got a nice ass resonator to quiet the thing down....
So are you positive about 2.25" vs. 2.5"?? Because I'm not too good with exhaust business, so I've done some research and I heard 2.5" is good.
I'm planing all this for summer, so I still have some time to get more feedback.
You know anyone by any chance who done cat back exhaust on gen3 4cyl camry??
Thanks again
