TRD Radiator Cap

Hi,
I just got a new radiator for my 1994 Camry and i am also thinking of getting the TRD Radiator Cap.......

however, I noticed that it only has 2 pressures avaliable 1.3kpa and 1.5kpa. however on my old radiator cap, the pressure says 0.9kpa

is it ok, to put a higher pressure one on this car? ie: is it safe or will it cause problems/damage in the long term?

thanks.

the whole point of getting an aftermarket cap is for the higher pressure....

You should definitely go for a higher pressure if available. These cars are a pain when they come to overheat, as soon as it only overheats a little bit, its whole water leaves the system and you can't drive anymore.

I know the point of an aftermarket cap is for a higher pressure

but I was just concerned whether putting a higher pressure cap (1.3kpa) on a cooling system made for a lower pressure (0.9kpa) will affect the system in the long term?

I do not think so. When you think of many other brands of cars (I don't know American cars but I know most of European cars are built that way), when water overheats, it has no way to escape the system, pressure becomes then very important but water stays, and the system is supposed to cope with that. Thus I don't think a very little bit more of pressure will affect the system in any way and you'll be more happy to have that if one day you get overheating problems : the system will not lose most of its water and you'll still be able to drive the car.

No, I don't think you get it. You are only improving your cooling system by adding the cap so that it can handle more pressure.

Your question would be similar of asking if there is any drawback to adding Z rated performance tires on a car that wasn't designed to go over 100mph.

Chances are you won't need them, but it can't hurt to have higher quality parts.
