Avalon 2000 XL, 30,000 miles.
"Check engine" light came on, scaned OBDII code 0171 - system too lean. Reset, comes back again and again. Vehicle drives fine. Replaced air filter, cleaned MAF sensor.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Yes, I scanned the OBD codes (0171), reset, replaced the air filter and flushed MAF sensor with alcohol.
"Check engine" came back in two days with the same 0171.

okay well, have you checked your O2 sensors? maybe that's what's wrong... the O2 sensors are giving the wrong signals to the ecu and making your car run lean...
i have the code as well and i have done nothing to the stock airbox except a trd air filter which was also oiled and cleaned.... besides that everything is normal...
can someone shine some light where in the camry (gen 4 if can) an o2 sensor is located? because there's a few camrys in the junkyard and i can prolly get it for free or cheap but i don't know what and where i'm looking for.
hopefully someone can tell me soon so i can drop by the junkyard...
My mom has a 1995 Toyota Avalon and just recently when she presses the accelerator it wants to just sit there, it doesn't wanna go anywhere. And her Check Engine light just came on and when the car is at idle you can feel the engine like it's jumping. It runs really rough. Does anyone have any ideas on what can be the problem? Or anywhere on the internet that has a list of the ECU codes? Thanks!

check your vacuum hoses. I swear I laughed when I heard this but when I was installing my airfilter, I knocked one loose. The car was screwed....until someone suggested I go look. When I started tugging, sure as hell, one fell off. Instant fix.
How are you resetting? Disconnecting your battery, fuse?
I wouldn't recomend buying O2 sensors from a junkyard. You should just buy them new. I think they should go for like 65 bux? (Im not too sure.)
Cuz if you get O2 sensors from the junkers, you dont know if they are already bad or not and if they ARE good, they might have like 200 miles on them until they DO go bad. So just do yourself a huge favor and buy them new. Thats IF that error code is coming from the O2 sensor. (Which I doubt cuz I think the O2 sensors give you a different error reading? Im not too sure about that either.)

you know i have the same problem with my car i have a 2000 avalon xls and i took it to the dealer and they said it was the 02 sensor but they said it might be that the injectors were dirty and they were going to clean out the throttle body after all is said and done two days later the check engine light and vsc light goes on again so i replaced all three 02 sensors and still the same problem if someone knows how to resovle this let me know .
My check engine light keeps coming on, too. I have a 2000 Camry V6 with about 39000 on it. I took my car to AutoZone where they scanned it for free. They said I had a loose gas cap. The cap was thightedned and the ECU was reset......three times now! It is definelty not a loose gas cap!
I also had same problem
Replaced Fuel injector, Oxigen sensor still does not help when i check with ODBII in M.I (monitor inspection) mode it show like this:
Catalystic Not ready
Evap Sys Not ready
O2 Not ready
H2O Not ready
All other are Ready or N/A
So what's the.. wrong with my car Now? I spend about $1000 bucks on it by now any sugestion please
