3rd Generation Experienced opinion on Anti-freeze

All,
I bought a used Camry in 95. Someone put green Anti-Freeze in it. It still passes the temperature test with a hydrometer but must be loosing its rust & corrosion protection properties by now.

My question is this: Has anyone had ill affects from changing back to the Red stuff?

Obviously the goal would be to get all the green out, but that ain't gonna happen so there will be some "mixing" going on.

What are your thoughts on this? Leave it green or switch?

Thanks,

Do what you want but if you change it back drain the rad and put water and a bottle of the rad flush. Let it run up to operating temp. Then drain it again to get the water/green mix out. Then add your color of choice. You can flush it multiple times if needed to get all the green out.

leave it green. it came from the factory full of green. theres no need to go through with a couple hours of flushing for the marginal benefits of red stuff.

I bought my 2000 Camry in 2003 and it's had yellow or green coolant ever since.

A few months ago I decided to switch over to red.

I drained the radiator and refilled with distilled water. I did this day after day until the drained water showed absolutely no sign of coolant in it. I also smelled it to verify. It must have been at least six times. At that point, I filled about 25% red to 75% water two times. Then I drained and did the final 50/50. Each drain/fill was on a separate day of course.

If draining the radiator on a 95 is the same as a 2000, then it's super easy. The longest part of it is waiting for the radiator to drain.

Even if the red had no benefit over yellow/green, I'd still do it just 'cause it's prettier.

You can take it somewhere and have it flushed and changed to the red coolant, but as Rusty said factory fill for a 95 was just the regular green coolant so why go through the trouble.

Thanks All!

I thought it shipped from Japan w/da Red Stuff!

Green it shall stay as it's not worth the effort and trying to dispose of gallon upon gallon of coolant & dilluted flush.

That's what I needed to know!
