I have a 93 v6 cam, I bought that HKS style dual tipped muffler on ebay for our cars, I love the look and I spent 50 bucks to get it installed then ended up re hanging myself cuz muffler man sucks.
Any way, I is loud as hell, ESPECIALLY at 60 mph, I hate it, so I have two questions
1. what can I do too quiet it down, i have heard different or 3 resonators, larger pipe, anything or should i get a different one..
2. did i loose power from this, it feels like it on take off, if so can i gain it back , I already have a CAI, and will you suggestions to the 1st question gain my power back or take more away,
3. Should I just buy a different muffler, I like powerful, but not loud at all, just wanted a lil accent for the intake,
do aftermarket resonators work better than the stock one? I too would like to know how to quiet it down. What i did to try and quiet it was put back the stock airbox and resonators in the intake. Then added an aftermakret 24" resonator after my stock one. Also i put on 2 silencers on both mufflers.
the intake ones *duno why its called that but heard it on this forum* are just the plastic jugs that go before the air box and the one on the bottom of the plastic pipe that connects air box to throttlebody. My silencer came w. the mufflers.
Originally posted by camcar did it work and where is this intake resonator. Did you buy some random silencers or wher they for your mufflers
you can forget about the intake resonator because you said that you already have an CAI, correct? i'd go with a silencer to "band-aid" the problem. plus with a silencer, you'll gain some low-end torque back but you'll lose some peak horsepower.... i'd say if you were going for power, aggressive looks, yet quiet, deep tone, Apexi World Sport exhaust is for you. I've heard (on this forum) that greddy and apexi exhausts are similar in power gains but apexi is significantly quieter....
yea the silencer is ur best option, my exhaust are loud but if i put on the silencer, it still dont help but u dont have same setup as mine so silencer will work for u

not necessarily. basically the reason your car is so loud is because of a lack of backpressure. this also causes loss of low end, which was already mentioned.
i had this same issue, with my dual exhaust.. i have 2 magnaflow street series mufflers, with no silencers at all. what i did to solve the problem was had an exhaust shop (that has done my 3 exhaust setups) to install an aftermarket resonator in the exhaust line before it split to the mufflers. its basically an oem replacement resonator (its not a performance one or anything). the sound of the exhaust went from a blatty airplane/ pissed off weedwacker sound to a very clean low hum at low rpm's.
speaking from my own experience, the best solution is to go to an exhaust shop and have them install a resonator somewhere in your exhaust line. silencers only do so much, and they look kinda silly anyway. also in my first setup (oem pipes w/ some crappy obx muffler), the silencer would vibrate at high rpms, which sounded kinda strange! now though i get a very consistent hum until about 1.5K rpm, then it goes silent until 4500 when it starts to scream!
so that leave me with two questions and I think I might try this,
1. Did you keep your original resonator and add a second one, is that correct. so you have two resonators in a row
and
2. will this bring my low end back
oh and 3 what size piping did you go with,
just a\outta curiosity did that left muffler just hang right up on your cam for the duals, thanks man
i am exited now I gotta know EVERYTHING wua hahahahahaaaa
