The Real Culprit???

I never bought into this gas pedal stuff. I think the real problem is more like this, a possible more serious electronic flaw for Toyota???

The official says the safety agency is looking at the possibility that electromagnetic interference might somehow be causing Toyota's electronic throttle control systems to malfunction, though NHTSA has not seen evidence to support that yet.

Well, this is why I like old cars! They do not have "drive by wire' crap, however some older GM used to have problems with stuck throttle linkage
Long live 1966 FIAT 124 & Toyotas of 70's!!!!

This is so hard to prove. The computer never logs an error if this happens as it really isn't an error. If the signal is misinterpreted and the throttle opens, why would the computer think it's not what the driver intended. So I can see no error being logged, thus no proof. So the investigation will probably turn up nothing.

But if it were electromagnetic interference, where does it come from? I mean if I am pulling into my local stores parking lot and the car lurches forward, where is it getting the signal from? How does one test for this? You can't put a field 1 foot from the car and have the RPMs spike and then say SEE. I mean if I put a magnet next to my monitor it goes bonkers, but if it's two or three feet away, nothing happens. So does distance play a part?

If it is a cell phone, they why doesn't it happen all the time as teh phone is used all the time. If it is from outside, how close does the magnetic interference have to be. Test were done by a company that waved a EM wand by the Corolla pedal and the RPMs jumped around but there were a foot away. Where could I be that it would be that close to an EM field.

I think it's more to do with the miscommunication between the Cruise system and the throttle, regardless of if the cruise is on or off, there is a malfunction there.

1 month ago this "issue" didnt exist... as far as I know there has only been 1 real issue with a stuck throttle... and that 1 guy's Avalon was determined to have a pedal that the pivot point had dirt and gunk built up on...
All these other stories I am hearing about are on cars that arent involved in the recall, meaning they dont have the same pedal installed in them and that there is no chance of crap getting stuck in the pivot point... The media went nuts on this cause they wanted to hack down Toyota... I love how the media is NOT hyping up the fact that its the Toyota's that are built in AMERICA that are affected and not the ones built in Japan...

Let me point something else out for everyone... The company that produces the pedals for Toyota USA is able to make 100,000 pedals a day for this recall... that's 3 million pedals a month... so 36,500,000 pedals a year... Toyota has recalled 4.6 million vehicles that are as old as 2005 (every vehicle that has this pedal installed in it) so the question to ask yourself is what company gets the remaining 31,900,000 pedals produced per year? GM? Ford? Chrysler? Honda? Subaru? Kia? Hyundai? All car manufacturers?

OH! and please check your VIN, if it starts with "JT" dont call to ask if your vehicle is involved in the recall... its not...

My 2 cents...

Just some food for thought...
