had it tuned up...then it began to die on the street. it's intermittent. it's either starved for gas or spark. Repair shop replaced the air flow meter for $800 and it STILL did the same thing the next day...twice! I'm getting my money back if you can believe that! anyway...does anyone know why the car dies when trying to accelerate? if I din't know it was fuel injected, i'd swear it was the accelerator pump on the carb. it acts just like that! hesitation...then stall. or...hesitation then enough rpms to get it on. it does it when it's cold...then again just before normal operating temp. after that, it seems fine. anyone had this happen? what was the solution?
thanks for a quick response. you've clued me in that i'd better add some details.
the head gasket is ok...and the compression is good and balanced. the car is not using oil...nor is it smoking or leaking. it runs strong (well...that's relative) when it's not dying! never dies when the rpms over 1300 (approx). it's that acceleration thing... again...just like an accelerator pump gone bad.
could it be the engine temp sensor?
did the car die while engine warm or cold?
if temp sensor malfunction,it will flood the engine with too much gas, and cus it to stall.
i would go with what Jwa said........... man it sounds like compression just because yopu can get it running and your car is idling all weird and stuff.....have some one check it out

its not your compression, don't piss your money away a compression check. Go back to the last thing you done to the engine. If it was running before the tune up obviously something was screwed up on your tune up ie: plugs, distributor, wires etc. If it was doing this before the tune up get a manual and a little low cost digital VOM and you can check out every sensor and FI related item on the engine.
did you find your problem having the same exact problem with a 1990 camry that i just purchased.
have checked out the coil and is ok. but what does this cold start
injector do have read that this may be a factor in the running
of the engine untill it reaches approx 113 deg f.
