Oil leak probelm...Help?

Theres seems to be a small oil leak around the bottom of the transmission. The bottom side of the transmission as it extends bellow where it meets with block, has a black metal plate on the side of the transmission right beside the oil pan. Oil seems to be coming out from in between the bottom of the plate and the tranny. Is it possible that oil is comming out there, or is it coming from somewhere else. I know its oil. How do i fix this? whats under the plate?

Rear main seal is leaking.

Remove tranny, flexplate, and replace rear main seal.

whats under the plate
Its a access plate for the flexplate and torque converter.
