I'm planning to buy an 05 Camry and I found 1 from an individual seller.
It's a 05 Camry LE with 65,278 miles on it, from the pic it's in good condition and they ask for $8,600.
I went to Kelly Blue Book website and they showed the vulue of this car in good condition for $9,015.
Can somebody give me an advice how much I should pay for this car ?
That's private party price. I did another search on Kelly Blue Book for Suggested Retail Value (Dealer) and the price is $11,765.
I've just called the individual who put the car for sale, it turned out it's from a dealer and I also got the carfax report.
It's been 3 owners:
1/ From 12/2005- 11/2008 with 26k miles, 1 accident reported in 2007 (front impact).
2/ From 12/2008 - 5/2009 with 48k miles.
3/ From 10/2009 - 11/2009 with 65,278 miles, this period was for lease and sold in an Auto Auction.
Besides 1 accident listed, no other issues.
Also, the last owner put a lot of mileage on the car. Only for a month, they put almost 20k miles on the car.

Low mileage! This owner drove an estimated 6,570 miles per year, lower than the industry average of 15,000 miles. These vehicles can be a better value.

Something here doesn't make sense to me. How can you lease a vehicle for 1 month and put 20,000 miles on it during that month. Also, the last 2 owners kept the car 5 months and then 1 month respectively. That along with the front end accident and the fact it was retitled in another state makes me a little skeptical about this car. I would stay away from this car and look for another vehicle.
You're right ! something is not right here. First of all, the price seems too low for this car, I don't think I'd be able to find this kind of deal from any dealer.
The 1st owner kept the car for 3 years, from 2005-2008.
The 2nd owner kept the car for 1 year, from 2008-2009.
The 3rd owner kept only for a month.
You mentioned about the car retitled, that's the 2nd and 3rd owner lived in IN.
I don't mind buying a vehicle involved in an accident with cosmetic damage.
Anyway, so far I can see 2 mysteries about this car:
1/ The price too low
2/ How can the 3rd onwer put 20,000 miles in 1 month ?
This car is not certified. I came and looked at the car after work this evening and everything looked fine to me, I can see the right fender replaced but it's not obvious from the outside. I only knew it when I opened the hood and looked carefully on the side. The engine run smoothly, I owned and drive an 05 camry everyday so I know how's the engine run. This is the link to the car.http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/ctd/1595266074.htmlI have not made any offer yet since I still undecided.
It says it was certified in 11/08 after the damage. I would say take it to your local shop and have them inspect it if you still concerned about it. It looks like a very clean car.
Thank you for your advice, zppeacock ! I stopped by FireStone on the way home this evening and they have the overall inspection service. All they'll do are mechanical visual inspection like hoses, oil leak, brakes, steering, CV boots, joints... They won't inspect exterior wether the car has ben repainted or body repaired. What other local shop do you recommend ?
From going on what the carfax says. After the accident, it was repaired and sold at a Toyota dealer as a USED Certified Toyota. From what I remember our body guy said that they cannot be a USED Certified if they have had more then 1 panel replaced/painted.
You could try an independent shop and see if they would to a full inspection, or maby at Toyota dealer in your area, and perhaps a body shop. Im really not local to ya and don't know what you have for shops around there.
The price is good, but not suspiciously good. I think $8600 is a fair price for the car - if you're seriously interested, it doesn't hurt to tell them if they accept $8300 (or whatever you're thinking) you'll pay immediately.
It is interesting that the car's records indicate almost 20K miles were put on in two months - maybe someone was doing cross country traveling and decided it was cheaper to just buy a car and sell it after rather than rent one?
