An end to motor mount madness and shock

So I did some research on this on going battle as to what motor mounts the 3vz acually has here it is.

1. The dog Bone- Stops the motor from moving foward and backwards from driving torque, aka flooring it in drive or reverse.
Ussually wears on the peice closest to the front of the car, not all the time though.

2. Front Lower Mount- Holds the motor down on the sub frame and stops the motor from moving up. Ussually most noticible in a thud thunking when letting of the gas at higher speeds. It is Hydrolic and rubber. The rubber ussually goes, rare occurance that it leaks, if it does it will be the color of motor oil.

3. Rear Lower mount- Stops the motor from slamming back down from drive torque, and is the only mount stressed in reverse, so if your reverse feels laggy, thats your pesty mount. As you can see its just the busing you need to buy. Only if the main bolt through it has worn out the washer or cast mount will you need to buy the washer or the cast.

4.Transmission Mount- This mount takes torque in every possible situation, If you are feeling a thud at mostly all speeds mainly gears beyond 1st and ussually second, real bad in over drive, thats your mount.

5. The notorious Engine moving control Rod- This is a shock. Even with perfect mounts your motor will movie some, mounts are only rubber. These peice makes the movment firm, when the motor moves, this shock will bring the motor back down soft.
This peice goes bad and when it does it will get real loose, unbolt it and if you can move it up and down easy, its shot, and to answer this mostly asked question, YES IT DOES HAVE FLUID IN IT. Mostly mistaked for antifreeze as it is green, if this happens itrs obviously shot.

Here is the link for the picture of the mounts on my website:

http://www.midnightdreams.org/res/pix/mounts.jpg

click the view actuall size button to read it if you have too, it was to big for this forum

In closing, If one mount is shot you can almost garuntee that one other if not all mounts are shot. Once your motor starts jumpin around due to a broken mount the others start to wear 3x as fast.. Well hope that helps, I just replaced them all and it fixed alot and feels great. Those prices are a direct toyota price, let me know if you have any problems or questions about changing your mounts on the 3VZ. Later, Brad

1mz is the same, and 5sfe is same. the only difference is between manual and auto trannies. and also, some models may not have number 5 on the list...

the 5sfe rear lower motor mount looks nothing like that motor mount in the diagram camcar posted for the 3vz, it looks more like the front hydrolic mount...

true, just saying that there were all the same mounts... not saying that they are all designed the same... they are all slightly different.

I have a question ? When I hit the gas hard in my car when pulling off, it sort of "jumps or bumps" but this only happens when pulling off ? Does it sound like it could be any of those mounts and is there a way of visibly telling if its broke ? I may just be paranoid with the auto trans since this is the first time I have ever owned and driven one. Maybe thats the tranny just doing its job Can anyone elaborate on that problem ?

Thanks

If it was in fact a mount it would either be the front hydrolic mount, or the torque strut, aka the dogbone. Just look at the rubber on them and see if there is noticible cracks or wear, or use the old put it in D and R and hold the brake give it gas method and have a friend or look thru the backside of your hood to see if the motor is moving a good bit, and yes the 5sfe rear mount is completely different than the 3vz but its in the same spot as well as the 1MZ.

The pic above is as stated, from a 3vzfe

If that "jump" or "bump" is really harsh its doubtful that its a mount, is it like a skip/hesitation or a miss or a jolt.

well when you floor the car, dont forget the computer downshifts and raises the rpm all within a matter of half a second.. and the downshift can make a hard jolt depending on how hard you accellerate

It definately feels like a bump and Im hoping its not the tranny. The car does have 217,000 miles on it and I dont know if the tranny was ever changed. The engine is original I know but the tranny Im not too sure. Im gonna have all of the mounts checked out tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up though
