Shaved Handles

Anyone shaved their handles? What kind of solenoids (popppers)? How much weight must they be able to push? What about the electrical work? What about a manual release on the door?

I shaved all 4 of mine..... i used AutoLoc solenoids for the front 2 doors. 50lb. I bought the remote kit and it comes with 2 remotes for your keychain and it comes with 2 manual poppers (under car). i think i paid 250 for all of it. it works well, just dont get the solenoids wet!

I cut metal into the shape of the hole left behind after taking the handle out.... i bent the metal a little to get the little curve and welded it over the whole. then after lots of bodywork it was perfect.

I didnt think i needed to get 4 solenoids, yes its a little expensive, and its a lot cheaper to just reach behind the seat and open up the back doors. so i only got 2 but i shaved all 4.

I asked a friend who said they were nothing but a nightmare. You can't open the door if you're on a hill; sometimes the poppers don't get the door open. I don't know if this is the case, but what are common problems with the poppers?

just dont get the solenoids wet!
why?

I've really had no problems with the 50lb solenoids..... they are perfect for any door over 35 pounds..... i had a few problems when it would rain and get really cold out. They would freeze up and not pull the latch down inside the door, so i had to wait a day or 2 for them to work again.....

If you get them wet they can rust inside the pulling mechanism and never work again.

By the way.... the solenoid and a popper are 2 different things....

The solenoid is the electrical device that pulls the latch down inside the door and the popper is just a spring that pushes the door off the hinge when the latch is pulled down.

These things kind of suck cause if your thing runs out of batteries...your screwed..

So all u ppl who have this feature, do you have butterfly doors? (doors that open like a birds wings or do you have the lambo/ferrarri ones that open up?) Or...do you have just open to the side?

I think that's why most people install a manual release.
