Angry Automatic Trans Shifting Problem

Ok my gen3 v6 has a problem
When I start up my car and try to shift from P to D, the shifter doesnt disengage from P

I know my tranny isnt shot because when i use the shift lock override to drive, the car moves no problem

I've also checked the reverse and it has no problem either

Has anyone come by this problem before?
I hope someone can give me some tips before i bring my car into toyota because those stupid service techs always break something in my car everytime i bring it in!!

Thanks

Well above the shifter you should see this little black rectangular cover dealy that can be popped off with a flat head screwdriver. I *think* that it's a release switch for the shifter. I haven't tried it before since I've never had to, but I think you just jab the screwdriver in and try shifting. Dunno if it'll work... someone else who's actually fiddled around with it might be able to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.

after a quick search, what i've gathered is 175$ from the dealership, but one guy took it apart and fixed the connection inside

I had this same problem, brake lights didnt come on, and had to use the override to get out of park. It was just the fuse for the brake lights. Might be worth checking.
