Modded Silverstar 9005's

One of my headlights burned out yesterday so I decided to go out all day and mod the sylvania silverstar 9005's to fit in my 9006 (lowbeam) assembly. I can't wait to check out the 700 more lumens tonight! For anyone wondering, it's a very easy process to do and only took me about 10 minutes to modify each bulb.

I followed the directions on this website for beemer's: http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm

However, I don't think it was necessary for me to trim the middle notch on the bulb housing for my gen3. It looked like it could fit in the housing regardless of it being a slightly larger tab. I used some small wire cutters and an exacto-knife to score the tabs on the inside of the plug and then used some needle-nosed pliers to pry them off. I'll try to get pictures when we have some good weather at night...

it'll burn out quickly, because you'll be using the high beam bulb most of the time.

well high beam bulbs dont tend to last as long as the low beams because the filament is meant for output where as the lowbeam is more for longevity

Both the low and high beam harnesses in the camry are meant for a max of 65 watts.

I've experienced exactly that just this past week... both of my 9005 Silverstars have burnt out... I put them in last summer too... kinda disappointed, but of course, I'm doing it again.

I bought the 9005 harnesses for the low beams. Perfect, just splice and good to go.

I've had mine done for quite a few years now and I may replace them more frequently than normal low beam bulbs but no where near as often as you'd replace any other absurdly priced aftermarket bulb.

...DRL's use your high beams all day long at the same power level as your low beams and hey last for quite some time.

I burnt out one low beam harness using a high beam bulb in the low beam socket. I don't think high beams were meant to be on a lot. ..burnt out after 6 months. I made my own wiring harness, all it good now.
