It could be the cruise control system - in the case of the man in jail for vehicular homicide, he said his Camry was accelerating on its own.. Apparently his 1996 Camry may have been affected by a recall on the cruise control module for failing to keep its speed (it would increase by itself) so I'm curious what comes of that case after all this publicity for sudden unintended acceleration.
Other people have had problems with their cruise control too, I think I read someone with a 2000/2001 Sienna had the same problem with it not keeping its set speed.
I'm wondering how exactly the cruise control is setup on the newer Camrys. My mom's 1995 Camry has a big black box tied to the throttle cable, but on my 2005 everything is electronic so there's nothing in the engine bay as far as I can see. Even if it were tied to the cruise control, it would still be a problem with the overall computer because once you hit the brakes the cruise control is supposed to disengage.
Whatever the case, I'm keeping my 2005 Camry but if it ever for one second suffers from 'sudden unintended acceleration' I'm dumping it. I don't understand why all these people kept driving their cars after multiple SUA events. I understand the financial aspect of being upside down on a car loan if you didn't pay cash, but still, my life is worth more than a couple thousand bucks.
