engine start.. scary..

I have a gen4.5 v6, when i go to start the car, it jumps to about 2000 rpm's and sometimes the car shakes during startup.. it's kinda scary and making me worry a bit.. cause it didn't used to do that.

how do i get it to start more smoothly?

last oil change was about 3000 miles, and ill admit i drive it somewhat rough, so im going to get another oil change soon, and it has about 60,000 miles total.

what else could it be?

thanks

I had some weird starting problems that caused my car to shake, mainly because it was too cold out. Here's what I do these days:

#1. Enter car, turn key so that electronics turn on. Leave it for a few seconds while I put on seat belt.
#2. Pump the gas pedal 3 times to make sure there's some gas in the chamber.
#3. Start car.

I haven't had weird starting problems ever since I've started to do this. Maybe you could give it a shot.

For fuel injected cars, you're not supposed to give it gas before you start.

Shit, that happens to my car every time... I think it's just the weather, but I'm not sure.

as for hitting the gas pedal for fuel injected cars when its not on, all it does is it moves the butterfly in the TB. the computer controlls how much gas goes into the cylinders. if the car is off, the computer is off, therefore no gas is going in the cylinders.

I think what the dude wanted to saw was push in the gas three times when in ACC position. I'm sure tehre are questions in regard to doing such....I do it when i start teh car when it been sitting over the weekend or when i've not driven it in a few days.

For the initial cold start questions: i'm guessing carbon build up???

Just get some throttle body cleaner..and spray that sucker nicely..and get one STP concentrate fuel injector cleaner..and add that to an empty gas tank and fill some good gasoline. see if its any different after that!
