Question N/A vs Japan 3S-FE

My Gen 2 '87 Camery 3S-FE has siezed oil rings. I am going through about 1 liter(1 Quart) of oil for every 200km(120miles). I have located a dealer of imported Japanese motors with about 120,000km(75,000 miles). The 3S-FE head and motor will cost $500CDN, this is a bargain I think. Does anyone have any advise reguarding the swap in and out of the motors. Is there a concern for the wiring harness or any adaptor plates required(exaust, intake or transmission)? Or is a 3S-FE a 3S-FE anywhere in the world?Any specific concerns or typical problems to watch for when looking at imported used Japanese motors?

I'm pretty sure it should be the same but you might want to consult with a dealer or another parts recycler.
...or the search button. I believe there was a discussion on this very topic not to long ago.

btw its "N.A." N/A=not aplicable NA=naturally aspirated N.A.=North America

They are pretty much the same. Try and get a later one if at all possible with the square spark plug boots. It will give you about 20 more hp.

Will it matter what car a 3sfe/auto trans comes out if you're putting it into a gen2 camry? I see a lot of JDM engines/trans on ebay, but I don't want get into something that I'll have to modify heavily in order to get it to fit.

I'd think so... different cars have different mounts. To be 100% sure I'd consult a dealer or parts recycler as to what models share the same mounts.

JDM 3S-FE == about 135-140hp (depends on generation)
USDM 3S-FE== 115-140 (depends on generation)

You've got 115hp, so you'll gain 20-25, or you can look into getting a USDM one from a Rav4 that has 140hp (roughly) and possibly save yourself some emmisions hassle (I'm not sure about Can. emmisions).

The wiring for the engine is the same.

From the sounds of it your buying a longblock (block & head). You'll have to use your existing intake + exhaust manifold.

Ask if the engine has a 6 bolt or 8 bolt crank. Early gen 2 Camry's have a 6 bolt crank and later ones have a 8 bolt crank.

Ask about compression, leakdown, and warranties.

Buy from a local importer if possible. That way you can check out the motor before you buy it.

I asked the guy if it had been compression tested, and he said it had been and was running when pulled. It comes with an automatic transmission. I asked him if he knew what automatic it was, but the only numbers he could find on it were A134. I know I've got the A140E. Has anyone ever heard of that transmission and are they compatible? He says the motor came out of a 1992 Carina. It seems like a good option considering I've got a dead cylinder and a transmission that isn't shifting right.

Here's the link to the auction:
