tranny swap questions!

Ok so the transmission (automatic) on my 89' camry went out. I found a friend who has a 91' camry and is willing to pull his tranny(automatic) and give it to me. I was wondering if the swap will be possible, my main concern is that i have the standard 4 cyl engine and his is a 2.52L? v6 Do any of you know if its possible to swap these transmissions with out to much difficulty?

I'd expect difficulties. On manual trannys it isn't such a problem since the pressure plate bolts to the engine and you match a disk to the tranny. On an automatic it must match the spline and the bolt pattern plus depth. Not even bringing the mounts into the equation. What's wrong with the 91 Camry?

The 91 is a car that was givin to my local highschool auto class. The instructor is a friend and said if its possible to do the swap he'd let me since the engine in the 91 is bad anyway and isnt drivable. I'm not sure but i think his students are going to do the swap as a class project..... i dont even wanna think about the ramifications of that though haha

if you've got the time, energy and another vehicle to drive in the meanwhile, i'd try it, but i'd expect it not to work

but i'm sure you can find a gen 2 auto tranny in a salvage yard no problem if it dosen't fit

no good, you would need axles, and hubs, and some way to fit the torque converter to the crankshaft of the engine... no good...

find a replacement from a junkyard, im sure you could find one for 150 bucks and within a half of a day have it delivered to your house-dave
