What type of Gas do u 3.3 guys use?

Still on my 1st tank of gas, but i just wanna know if its fine to run 87 octane. The manual says its fine, but says using 91/93 will give "added performance", whatever that means. Has anyone actually noticed more power when using premium?

there should be something about that in your owners manual, around the same place as it says 87 is ok

for the 1mzfe there's a subtle hint that higher octane would give better performance, but i don't think toyota wants to preach that

every toyota manual I've read said that premium was recommended. has toyota changed its mind since the 1995 model year?

I use the midgrade 89. You should be fine on 87. The bit about "added performance" is a reference to the fact that your car uses a knock sensor to adjust it's timing for the octane in use. More octane = more timing advance = added performance.

I just bought a new 3.3 SE two weeks ago to replace my 95 LE V6. What a difference! I can't believe how quiet and solid the SE is.

ok sounds good. I'm loving the low-end power this thing has , seems like i should be going atleast 3-4k rpms, and when i look down, im only at 2! Can't wait till the break in period is over

The back cover of my Owners Manual has Gas station information

3MZ-FE: UNLEADED gasoline, Octane Rating 87 (Research Octain Number 91) or higher.

I am using 87, at least until the Break-in period is through (the temptation may be too great).

The 10.5:1 compression 1MZ-FE in our Highlander definitely likes premium better. I'd say at least 10hp/tq more on premium. It's peppy and responsive on it. On 87 it feels slothy and lazy. The 3MZ-FE has a slightly higher 10.8:1 compression ratio so I think the 3MZ would like premium even more.

With gas prices so high lately, my wife switched back to 87 in her Highlander. But she didn't like it and went back to premium. The first time I put premium in it she wasn't with me and the next day she asked what the heck I did to her car because it felt so much zippier - premium ever since. But then I was driving a few weeks ago when she had 87 in it and I didn't know she switched. But it felt different (not as zippy/responsive) and I asked if she put regular in it - yep, she did. So both of us could tell the difference without knowledge of what gas was in the tank beforehand.

And for those not aware of the various methods of measuring octane levels around the world...
